Capable Life - Empowering Your Journey
At Capable Life, we empower NDIS participants aged 14 and above to develop essential life skills for independent living through personalised 1:1 coaching and training. Utilising the SMART framework, we build confidence and foster social integration. Our flexible sessions, offered weekly or fortnightly and ranging from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, ensure compassionate, person-centered care to help you achieve your goals.
Since each individual's needs and challenges are unique, we personalise our services using teaching, mentoring and coaching. We collaborate closely with support workers in capacity building integrating behavioural strategies, functional skills, social communication, and mental health support through a psychosocial approach. While not replacing OT's, speech pathologists, behaviour practitioner, or psychologist, we align our methods with their assessments and recommendations to ensure effective, needs-driven support.

Why Capable Life?
Unique Differences from other Life Skills Programs
1
Personalized, Comprehensive Approach
Most current life skills programs focus on social participation in group settings with no follow-up on whether the participant achieves independence. While these programs are valuable, they often lack the depth needed for true skill acquisition.
2
Continuous, Structured Support
At Capable Life, we believe acquiring a skill requires a structured learning approach tailored to the individual. We establish routines that turn skills into independent functions, often facilitated by the parent rather than the organization.
3
Holistic Community Integration
We enhance opportunities for continued participation in community activities by addressing the needs of the individual. This includes knowing who to call, what questions to ask, identifying social groups, and understanding basic nutrition to give their best effort.
4
Strength-Based Framework
We emphasize each individual's strengths, providing choice and flexibility. Participants have the freedom to stop or repurpose goals as needed and have their voices heard throughout the process. We work alongside allied health professionals to excel in each goal.
Frequently Asked Questions
1:1 life skills training is customised to each participant's goals with a measurable plan. For example, to prepare for employment, we might aim to create a cover letter in two sessions and practice customer service over four. Sessions include resume building, role-playing workplace scenarios, and setting weekly tasks. These sessions may be conducted at your home one week or at your favourite coffee shop next. Ultimately, you control and choose when and where these sessions occur.
We begin with an initial assessment to identify achievable goals. For example, if securing a job is the aim, we break it down into steps like creating a resume in two weeks, practicing mock interviews in three sessions, and preparing applications within a timeframe. We regularly review and adjust goals to align with evolving needs.
Our service focuses on developing specific, measurable skills for long-term independence using SMART goals. Unlike traditional support, we target personal and professional growth with structured, time-bound plans. This approach aligns with NDIS’s needs-driven services, allowing us to track progress and adjust as needed, ensuring you're prepared for real-world situations.
Yes, each session includes measurable objectives aligned with your long-term goals. For example, if the goal is to feel interview-ready, we track progress over four weeks with specific targets each week. Monthly reviews highlight achievements and celebrate progress, ensuring every milestone is clear and measurable.
Our first session is an introduction where we set specific, achievable goals based on your interests and needs. We discuss the skills you want to build and break them into measurable, time-bound steps for future sessions. No preparation is needed—just come as you are. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clear plan and timelines for achieving your goals.
